Tribal Employers

Tribal employers with 50 or fewer employees have the opportunity to purchase health insurance for employees through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP).  A Tribal government non-profit organization with fewer than 25 employees may also qualify for Small Business Healthcare Tax Credits to purchase insurance for employees.

Tribal employers with 50 or more full-time employees, including full-time equivalent employees, are considered large employers.  These employers are subject to the Employer Shared Responsibility Mandate and could be subject to a fine if they do not provide health insurance that is affordable and that provides minimum value to full-time employees in 2015.  However, transition relief is available to employers in 2015 with 50-99 employees through a certification process.
